Q & A

Q: Why did you become a doctor/reproductive endocrinologist?

While in medical school, I considered careers in ob-gyn, internal medicine, and pediatrics. I thrive on intellectual stimulation, like working with women and gynecology, and love babies and children. Reproductive endocrinology and infertility incorporates aspects of all these fields and is emotionally rewarding. Observing the tremendous joy that successful fertility treatment offers to patients inspired me as a third-year medical student to pursue this field.

Q: What are your hobbies?

My hobbies include traveling, gardening, exploring new cultures and cuisines, Zumba, and spending time with friends and family

Q: What is something about you that would surprise most people?

Some of my childhood claims to fame include being a finalist in the New York City spelling bee, skipping the eighth grade, being Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, and being on the front cover of the New York Daily News for having the best schoolyard garden.

Q: What about SGF makes you the most proud?

I am proud to be in a practice that offers scientific excellence yet at the same time is interested in addressing not just the medical, but the financial and emotional needs of a patient.

Q: What’s on your bucket list?

I would love to travel the world! I also have a soft spot for the needy, especially orphans and the elderly, and would love to help improve their lives through adoption and eldercare reform

Q: What is your approach to helping patients who are struggling?

I thrive on my personal interactions with my patients. When they are struggling emotionally, I try to be their realistic cheerleader, trying to motivate and encourage them so that they can move forward with the fertility journey and achieve a successful pregnancy outcome.

Q: How would you describe your personality?

I would describe myself as a kind, warm, caring person. I am very analytical, thoughtful and balanced by nature. I like to smile and make others smile.

"After having a rocky start to our infertility journey, my husband and I were transitioned to Dr. K's care. I was unsure what to expect based on my experience with my previous doctor but we knew we wanted a baby and would do anything to achieve that goal. Upon meeting Dr. K, I had a feeling things would be different and they were. Dr. K was absolutely amazing! She was patient and kind, she was genuinely passionate about helping us become parents and she shared in our emotions throughout our journey. I never questioned any recommendations she had or changes she made to our protocol because I knew her priority was helping us create our miracle baby. If we had questions about anything, I had no doubt that I would receive a phone call or email from Dr. K explaining things in a way we could understand. The journey was anything but easy and surely had its fair share of heartbreak, but I maintained the strength to continue moving forward because Dr. K always had a plan ready to be put into action if/when things got off track. Without Dr. K, our nurse Alexis and our support team at SGF, I don't think we would now be parents to our sweet Emma. And I know that if we need SGF again in the future, Dr. K will be ready and willing to support us again."

"Dr. Kulshrestha and her team were absolutely wonderful. She took the time to explain the processes and options we needed to be successful. The nurses and staff were incredibly helpful and supportive! So thankful to Dr. K and the team for their outstanding kindness and service!"

“Dr. K was more than wonderful and we had other doctors to compare to. It was such a breath of fresh air, especially during a time of stress, uncertainty and fear.”

“Dr. K was very friendly and knowledgeable and spent a good deal of time with us. We felt comfortable talking with her about our concerns which is a great thing.”

"We do not have enough glowing things to say about Dr. Kulshrestha! She walked us through our journey start to finish and was always there to answer questions, calm anxieties and cheer us on. She is very thorough and professional and always took the time to call us during each and every step of the process. We had several failed attempts at one of the other fertility centers, but Dr. K nailed it first time for us. So incredibly grateful for her care and attention."

"Your first appointment at a fertility doctor does not necessarily spark feelings of excitement or happiness. My husband and I were really nervous going to our first appointment, for many obvious reasons. Quickly after meeting Dr. K, though, I actually forgot all about those feelings. She is truly wonderful. She was so sweet from the second we met her, really took a lot of one-on-one time with us to explain the process we would be going through, our options, etc. She never rushed us (like a lot of doctors do) and made us feel comfortable from the start. I was able to have some testing done at my first appointment and I felt comfortable the whole time. Her bedside manner is nothing short of wonderful. Not to mention the treatment from everyone else at SGF. WOW. We had a personal nurse, Daniella, who was seriously incredible. She called immediately with test results, was always available to answer questions or concerns I had, and I never felt like I couldn't call her or anyone at the office for help. I luckily ended up not having to go there too long because I got pregnant after a procedure recommended by Dr. K, but I honestly wish she could be my obgyn and I was slightly sad I wouldn't have them helping me anymore. If you have any reservations about fertility help, DON'T with SGF. Make an appointment and let them take care of you."

"Dr. K and the whole staff at Shady Grove Fertility are the most caring and professional medical staff I have ever seen. People come to them at a time when they are very vulnerable, sad, frustrated and I was no exception. They offered me realistic hope, a timeline and lots of options. After any procedures they would call to follow up for the next few days. Dr. K is so sweet and makes you feel special and that your concerns are her concerns. She wants success for you and will do anything for that. I wish she could be my every day doctor."

"Dr. K was not only a wonderful doctor but also provided a great deal of comfort and understanding in an otherwise very stressful process. I would recommend her to anyone pursuing (or considering pursuing) fertility treatment."

"Dr. Kulshrestha gave me so much time and attention. I couldn't have asked for a better doctor. She is very knowledgeable and takes the time to explain each step of the process. Fertility is hard, but Dr. K makes it easier. I would recommend her to anyone. She will change your life."

"Dr. K is beyond amazing! I was feeling defeated at the whole fertility process after going to another fertility specialist so when my husband and I went to Dr. K we were skeptical to say the least. What a different experience I had with Dr. K! She makes you feel like a person and not a number. Dr. K will personally call you to check on your progress and well being. She not only knows her stuff, but she explains everything to make sure you understand. She genuinely cares about her patients."

"I went to see Dr. Sunita Kulshresta in the Chesterbrook, PA office after several failed IVF attempts at some of the highest rated fertility clinics in NYC. What drew me to Shady Grove was their money-back/guarantee policies. I liked the idea of a place that had just as much incentive for me to succeed as I did. While I did not end up using one of those money back programs (only because I ended up getting a new job with insurance that covered most of my IVF expenses), I did still decide to have my treatment there. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. K. She is an extremely intelligent doctor who will do anything and everything she can to make sure you succeed. She was extremely detail oriented and double checked anything she had a concern about (given that I was having all my monitoring done locally by another clinic in NYC.) At the clinics in NY, I was just a number and just getting some standard protocol that was not necessarily good for my situation. I believe it's Dr. K's commitment to excellence that led to my success there on my very first try. Also, a shout out to her nurse Abby who was really incredible in every way. Abby was very patient and helped me through the extremely stressful process. I only wish Dr. K and Abby practiced in NY so more of my friends could be treated by them."

"Dr. Kulshrestha is amazing. She has wonderful bedside manner, is knowledgeable and works very hard to help her patients. My spouse and I welcomed our son into the world 3 weeks ago and are planning to see Dr. Kulshrestha mid 2017 to try for our next child."

"We had a wonderful experience with Dr. K, she is amazing. Very supportive throughout the whole experience. She always explained all our options and with each step we knew exactly what to expect. Her office was also very flexible with appointments. We have a beautiful baby boy now and we could not be happier! We feel very lucky to have had her for our doctor and did not realize how lucky we were until we heard a friend's experience with a different clinic, which was very disappointing. We would highly recommend her to anyone looking for an amazing doctor."

"Where do I begin? Not only was Dr. K a good doctor, she was so much more than that. She was basically my therapist as well. She provided so much support during such a trying time for my husband and I. She gave us the time we needed and NEVER rushed us out her door. No questions were left unanswered ever and she treated every situation with kindness, respect, empathy, and compassion. I could go on and on. Thank God for SGF. I am now pregnant with my first child thanks to her and all the SGF staff (after 3 years of "infertility")."

"Beyond better than our local fertility center (MLF) in terms of patient/doctor relationship and building a life in a lab versus intimacy at home. At SGF you are not just a number, you are a special person to Dr. K and the nurses. They are so much more available and attentive than any other medical practice I've ever dealt with in my life. This trying experience was made possible by the wonderful person Dr. K and how she and Dr. Sasson regard their practice and work ethic at Shady Grove. "

"After four years of pain and sorrow, meeting Dr. K was an absolute game changer. Her demeanor alone made us feel like we had a new lease on (creating) life. She's incredible. She truly cares about getting to know her patients, and treated us with the sensitivity, warmth, and knowledge we so desperately needed. I'm six months pregnant with our first son after only one round of IVF. Dr. K. just called to check in the other day, and to remind us that if we ever need anything, she's only an email away. I'm feeling our little one kick away as I type this and we owe that wonderful gift to Dr. K and the amazing staff at SGF!"

"Dr. "K" and her team are excellent. They are friendly and almost make the patient feel at ease. Every time we went in scared and down-hearted, we left with a smile."
