Dr. Kate Devine

March 31, 2023 by Shady Grove Fertility

NBC4 anchor Jummy Olabanji recently sat down with SGF physicians Dr. Kate Devine and Dr. Nicole Doyle to learn more about their recent clinical study published in the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA).

NBC4 shares:

Recent research suggests that a popular test that tens of thousands of women have done in the hopes of improving their chances of getting pregnant during IVF treatments is likely not worth the pain or expense for most patients.

More than 750 women took part in the trial, undergoing an endometrial receptivity analysis, or ERA, test. During the test, doctors take a biopsy of the endometrial lining of a woman’s uterus and the sample is then analyzed to predict the best time for transferring an embryo.

“We all very much hoped that this was going to be a test that would help women achieve their goal of family more efficiently, and, unfortunately, we did not find that. But it’s good news still in that we are able to help patients avoid cost, time, discomfort,” Devine said.

“The data showed that the addition of an ERA did not increase the rate of live birth compared to a standard embryo transfer,” Dr. Nicole Doyle said.

Doyle said families going through artificial reproductive technology want to try anything they can, but trials like this can help physicians guide patients to the right decisions.

“Sometimes, you know, it’s not about adding on all these tests that are costly, invasive and time consuming. Sometimes it’s just a matter of trying again, you know, pick yourself up and trying again. So I just push them through the next transfer and after three, the majority of them are successful,” she said.

March 20, 2015 by Shady Grove Fertility

At Shady Grove Fertility, we have recognized a growing demand in the Washington, D.C., metro region for increased access to patient care.

New State-of-the-Art Monitoring Suite

Dr. Anitha S. Nair

Shady Grove Fertility has expanded its K Street location, featuring a new monitoring suite. This monitoring suite is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and more exam rooms and blood draw stations to help patients move through appointments with greater ease.
Now Open 7 Days a Week

In addition to this remodeled space, the K Street office will have extended hours and will soon be open 7 days a week, including for weekend monitoring beginning in April 2015. Weekend monitoring is very important for patients in order to stay on track with their cycle. Expanding locations for weekend monitoring is very helpful to patients located throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. The following SGF offices have weekend monitoring hours:

  • Annandale, VA
  • Annapolis, MD
  • Chesterbrook, PA
  • Rockville, MD
  • Towson, MD
  • Washington, D.C. – K Street (as of April 2015)

New Offices & Fertility Specialists

Dr. Kimberly S. Moon

The K Street expansion represents one of the many ways in which Shady Grove Fertility has provided patients with greater access to care than ever before, including the December opening of an office in Hagerstown, Maryland, and hiring three new reproductive endocrinologists over the course of the past year. Sunita Kulshrestha, M.D., practices in Shady Grove Fertility’s Philadelphia area offices; Shruti Malik, M.D., practices in the Fair Oaks, Virginia, office; and Kate Devine, M.D., practices in the K Street location in Washington, D.C.

“It’s important for Shady Grove Fertility as a practice to adapt and evolve with the needs of our patients. Our growth initiatives are examples of this evolution, increasing convenience and comfort for our patient community,” said Eric A. Widra, M.D., Medical Director of Shady Grove Fertility.

Appointments are now being scheduled for K Street’s expanded hours. To schedule a new patient appointment, please call 888-761-1967.

January 13, 2015 by Shady Grove Fertility

At Shady Grove Fertility, we are 100% committed to showing you respect … and this includes respect for your time. That’s why we’ve made the investment to increase our hours, expand our locations, and hire three new physicians – among the best in the country – to better serve you.

Choosing the largest and most successful fertility practice in the nation – with 22 offices in the Mid-Atlantic region and 32 reproductive endocrinologists – means that you will receive truly exceptional care. Our continued growth has not made us lose sight of our goals. In fact, with every new office we open and every new physician we welcome, we reiterate our commitment to you. All of our patients will receive the same extraordinary care, whether you are visiting one of our three accredited laboratories or one of our satellite locations. We will invest in you. The depth and breadth of our experience and commitment in you is something you can count on.

The following changes will help our patients have greater access to care in 2015:

    • A new monitoring suite in our expanded K Street location in Washington, D.C. This monitoring suite offers state-of-the-art technology with an additional exam room and a more comfortable waiting area to help patients move through the monitoring process with greater ease. The endocrinology and andrology labs will be expanding as well. In addition to this remodeled space, the K Street office is extending its hours and will open for weekend monitoring beginning in late January/early February 2015.
    • In the last two years we have opened six new locations in the Mid-Atlantic region in order to provide patients with increased accessibility and shorter travel times, including our Hagerstown, MD satellite location which has just reopened. Jason Bromer, M.D., will see patients in this location.
    • Renovations at our Rockville, MD office will begin in early 2015 and feature a larger waiting room.
    • SGF recently hired three new reproductive endocrinologists: Sunita Kulshrestha, M.D., practices in the Bala Cynwyd, PA office and was recently recognized as a “Top Doctor” by Main Line Today; Shruti Malik, M.D., practices in the Fair Oaks, VA office; and Kate Devine, M.D., will begin practicing in mid-January at the K Street and Sibley locations in Washington, D.C.

What does this mean for you? Shorter commute times? We hope. Reduced wait times for appointments? Ideally, yes. Access to the nation’s best in terms of fertility care? Absolutely.

“It’s important for Shady Grove Fertility as a practice to adapt and evolve with the needs of our patients. Our 2015 growth initiatives are examples of this evolution, increasing convenience and comfort for our patient community,” said Eric A. Widra, M.D., medical director of Shady Grove Fertility.

Patients can now schedule appointments for the Hagerstown, MD, location and the expanded schedule for our K Street location in Washington, D.C. To schedule a new patient appointment, please call 888-761-1967.
