For Maria and Maury Burgwin, their journey to parenthood was a long one that spanned six years and three states. The couple, who resides in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is more than appreciative of Shady Grove Fertility Center for helping to give them what they call “their little miracle” – Collinson Thomas Burgwin.

“We started in 2002 with an RE in Pittsburgh and we were unsuccessful,” Maria explained. “We were sent to see doctors in New York City and we were unsuccessful there.

Finally my OB/Gyn in Pittsburgh sent us to Shady Grove Fertility.”

She continues, “He told us that he had delivered five babies that had been a result of Shady Grove Fertility. He said, ‘You have to go to Shady Grove Fertility. That is the place to go.’”

Both Maria and Maury immediately noticed the differences between Shady Grove Fertility and the centers that they had previously worked with.

“There were many things that we liked about Shady Grove Fertility,” Maria said. “Everyone was very warm and inviting; we had our own nurse who was available 24/7, either by telephone or by e-mail; and the money back guarantee was very attractive.”

“The process was very pleasant” added Maury. “We first met with Dr. Levy and then we met with our nurse. We were very impressed with the organization as a whole.”

For a couple going through fertility treatments, the myriad of appointments, testing and procedures can consume a lot of time. But when your fertility center is over 200 miles away it may seem like a tough task traveling back and forth during the treatment cycle.

Through a streamlined process for out of state patients, Maria was able to have routine blood work and ultrasounds done at her center in Pittsburgh and only travel to Shady Grove Fertility’s IVF center in Rockville for procedures. Both Maria and Maury agreed that the travel was well worth the sacrifice.

“Traveling from Rockville to Pittsburgh is really not that difficult,” said Maury. “There were many times that we would drive down for the day if we needed to have a procedure done.”

Added Maria, “Sometimes we would come down to Rockville, spend the night with my family, come to the office around 8 am for our appointment and be home by lunchtime. They were very accommodating for us.”

The couple was also impressed by Shady Grove Fertility’s success rates, especially the low rate of multiple pregnancies. With multiple embryos available at transfer, only one was transferred back which resulted in a successful pregnancy. Maria said that she felt confident with the elective Single Embryo Transfer (eSET) because she had done her research into Shady Grove Fertility’s statistics.

“The stats are important,” Maria said. “I think that it is a good sign of a center if you can actually pull up the statistics on their website and research them. I felt that we had a good shot because Shady Grove Fertility’s success rates were fabulous.”

On October 5, 2008, Maury and Maria welcomed Collinson to their family. The Burgwins recently visited the Rockville office to personally thank Dr. Levy and their nurse Doris Thomas. They said that they can’t do or say enough to express how happy they are with Shady Grove Fertility, and have recommended the center to three or four friends who are currently struggling with infertility.

“Shady Grove Fertility changed our lives for the best,” said Maury. I think they are one of the best centers in the country. We ended up with a beautiful, beautiful baby boy. I just can’t express how happy we are.”
