Like many other couples, Tim and I had the classic start to a fertility journey: trying for 1 year without success. After testing, we received a diagnosis of unexplained infertility and thus began our adventure.
We were about to do our first intrauterine insemination (IUI) with our first fertility clinic when the pandemic hit, which put us on pause to try on our own for another year. We sought a second opinion at a second fertility clinic out of state to save money, but realized the travel and expenses weren’t as cost effective as we hoped.
I changed jobs for better health insurance coverage that covered some fertility treatments, and we completed 3 IUIs at a third fertility clinic. None were successful and it was a challenging time, but we continued to have hope for our dream of having a baby. We continued to try on our own, consume as much fertility knowledge as possible, work on our health, mindset, take supplements, and practice gratitude for the life we already had.
Finding fertility care at SGF
It came to our attention that a new fertility clinic opened in our area that is well known around the country, Shady Grove Fertility. We decided to try this fourth fertility clinic. We met with Dr. Alexander Quaas and his team. We instantly felt welcomed, heard, and a sense of confidence we hadn’t felt at the other clinics. We decided to pursue in vitro fertilization (IVF) through SGF and the Shared Risk 100% Refund Program, which gave us peace of mind to try as needed, or we’d get our money back. We went through IVF with the help of Dr. Quaas and the nursing team, all of whom were phenomenal. Everyone was so supportive and encouraging every step of the way and held my hand through it all, both figuratively and literally.
Forever grateful
After 1 round of IVF, we had our first successful pregnancy and now have our beautiful, darling daughter. We are forever grateful for finding SGF and for the expert and compassionate care we received there that helped bring this little light into our lives. I’d tell future patients that whatever path to parenthood you choose, don’t give up because it is so worth it!
