In order to educate and inform our communities about the benefits of egg freezing, Shady Grove Fertility (SGF) will host monthly in-person physician-hosted seminars and virtual webinars.
SGF is one of only a few fertility centers in the nation with published pregnancy outcomes from previously frozen eggs. This information provides women with realistic expectations for their family building if they need to use these eggs.
SGF has more experience than most centers with egg freezing and thawing, having completed 526 egg freezing cycles in 2017, and 349 total egg thaw cycles since 2009. “Not every lab has the expertise and experience to vitrify, or flash freeze, eggs and then have them survive the thaw, fertilize, and develop into an embryo that leads to pregnancy and delivery. The techniques used to freeze and thaw eggs involve specific, highly specialized protocols, extensive embryology experience, and precise techniques,” adds Dr. Eric A. Widra, Medical Director of Shady Grove Fertility.
“With more women having children in their 30s and 40s, the number of women freezing their eggs to preserve fertility continues to grow. Since age is the number one factor that determines a woman’s fertility potential, women are becoming more proactive about their fertility at an earlier age,” adds Widra.
“Since not every egg will result in a pregnancy, we recommend women 35 and younger with normal ovarian reserve freeze 15 to 20 mature eggs, and 25 to 30 eggs for women over 36,” says Dr. Kimberly Moon of SGF’s K-Street, Washington, D.C. office who will be hosting the D.C. egg freezing seminar on Thursday, October 11 at 6:30 p.m.
Recommendations for how many eggs to freeze based on a woman’s age and the predicted probability of having children through egg freezing based on age are just two of the many topics that will be covered at the practice’s egg freezing events.
“As the first center to offer published egg freezing success rates, our data shows that women under the age of 36 have a 70 to 80 percent likelihood of taking home a baby if they freeze between 15 and 20 eggs,” says Dr. Eugene Katz of SGF’s Towson, MD and Bel Air, MD offices who will be hosting the egg freezing webinar on Thursday, November 1 at 12 p.m.
To help make egg freezing more affordable, SGF has created exclusive financial programs and guarantee programs. The Egg Freezing Discount Program offers women a treatment discount for each subsequent cycle if they need multiple egg freezing cycles to reach their family building goals. The Assure 20 and Assure 30 programs guarantee either a certain number of eggs or cycles, whichever comes first. A partial refund is given if a patient chooses to withdraw from the program, or if she is able to freeze 20 [or 30 in the Assure 30 program] mature eggs during the first cycle.
The practice also offers a guarantee program called the Shared Risk 100% Refund Program for Egg Freezing Patients who are returning to use their frozen eggs. Women with a favorable ovarian reserve at the time of their egg freezing may be eligible for this guarantee option—have a baby or receive a 100% refund of the cost incurred to use frozen eggs.
