Donor Egg

Donor Egg treatment provides an opportunity for intended parent(s) to have a child(ren) using an egg donor’s eggs. Egg donors may be known by the intended parent(s), such as a family member or friend, recruited through an agency, or have eggs frozen with an egg bank.

What to expect

Donor egg treatment is commonly needed by:

  • People who have decreased ovarian function, premature ovarian failure, or genetic abnormalities. In most cases, donor egg treatment offers a high chance of pregnancy even if other infertility treatments were unsuccessful.
  • Patients with unsuccessful IVF treatment that have used their own eggs
  • Cancer survivors
  • Same-sex male couples
  • Single men

Even though the eggs come from a donor, many intended parents will carry the pregnancy themselves and undergo the same medical screening as all IVF patients, whereas other intended parents will work with a gestational carrier to grow their family.

Intended Parents working with an agency-recruited or known egg donor will first identify their donor. Once selected, SGF coordinates the donor’s medical, genetic, FDA, and psychological screening to ensure she meets all clinical and regulatory criteria.

If the donor is approved for donation, both parties will collaborate with reproductive attorneys to finalize a legal agreement. After legal clearance, the donor begins the donation cycle, during which her eggs are retrieved and inseminated with the Intended Parents’ sperm or donor sperm.

The average timeline for completing a cycle with an agency-recruited or known donor is approximately three months from the time the donor is identified.

Financial options

We understand that every family’s journey is unique, including their financial considerations. SGF offers several options to make treatment accessible:

  • Self-Pay Packages with transparent pricing
  • Insurance Coordination, where available, to help maximize coverage and reduce out-of-pocket costs
  • Shared Risk Donor Egg Program 100% Guarantee, providing qualified participants with the assurance of a refund if a live birth is not achieved

Our financial educators will guide you through each option, helping you choose the plan that best supports your family-building goals.

Frozen donor egg treatment

Through our preferred partnership with Fairfax EggBank, Shady Grove Fertility patients have access to one of the most established and trusted frozen donor egg programs in the country. Fairfax EggBank provides a large selection of rigorously screened donors, personalized matching options, and exclusive financial programs designed to make the donor egg process more accessible and transparent.

Egg donor evaluation and donation process

Fairfax EggBank carefully screens over 1,000 egg donors each year. Each donor undergoes extensive medical, psychological, and genetic carrier screening, and provides a multi-generation family history. Less than 1% of initial applicants are approved to become donors. Once qualified, donors complete an egg donation cycle, and their frozen eggs are catalogued on the Fairfax EggBank database.

Each donor profile includes demographic characteristics, photos, personal essays, and health history details, allowing intended parents to make a confident and informed selection.
