Q & A
Q: Why did you become a doctor/reproductive endocrinologist?
A: Being a doctor allows me to take on different roles, all of which are challenging. Science was always fascinating to me and medicine is a very gratifying application of it. There are so many ways to make a difference and help improve a person’s quality of life. As a doctor who specializes in helping patients build their families, it is a privilege to help them achieve their goals for health and ultimately fulfill their identities as parents.
Q: Who inspires you?
A: I have a son and twin girls who inspire me every day to be a better person for them and for myself. They remind me every day of what is important and to take time to really be present in the moment. They make sure there is plenty of laughter in my life!
Q: What’s on your bucket list?
A: My family loves to travel and giving back is very important. My husband grew up overseas and I have worked in Africa, South America and Asia on several projects. We both would love to return to the countries in which we grew up.
Q: What are your hobbies?
A: I love to watch movies, learn salsa dancing, and practice power yoga. I like learning new languages and trying new foods. I also have dabbled in sailing but don’t trust me to tie a proper knot!
Q: What about you would most surprise people?
A: I was planning to be a gynecologic oncologist because I loved the surgery but late in my application process a very close mentor told me to withdraw my application because my skill set was a better match as a fertility specialist. I have been thanking him ever since! I love what I do and couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
Q: What about SGF makes you the most proud?
A: Shady Grove Fertility exhibits excellence on every level. Every team member is committed to provide the most compassionate and patient-centered care while incorporating the most evidence-based reproductive medicine available. Shady Grove Fertility has been a leader in patient advocacy, proven research, and innovative approaches to building a unique culture that continues to redefine how fertility care is delivered.
“Dr. Nguyen was patient, kind, and knowledgeable. She took her time at each appointment. Her compassionate care helped to ease my mind throughout the process.”
“I went to another facility prior to seeking assistance from SGF. When I met Dr. Nguyen, before the visit was even half way through I was sold! Not only is she extremely knowledgeable about her profession, she is one of the most compassionate and kind people I have ever met. She took her time explaining the process to me with pictures and videos. By the time she finished and asked if I had any questions, I laughed my nervousness away because she had given me explanations and answers to questions (some basic) I didn’t even think to ask! I would highly recommend Dr. Nguyen without hesitation to anyone going through this process. She and her team are truly awesome! Thank you for allowing us to have our little one who is bringing so much more joy to our lives! Much love to you all.”
“My husband and I came to Shady Grove Fertility seeking a second opinion. We had been trying to conceive for almost 3 years. Dr. Nguyen was very knowledgeable and was able to explain our fertility issues in a way that had not been explained to us before. She was extremely helpful and everything she said and explained made sense. After having our initial consultation, she recommended some additional testing. After the testing, we were extremely fortunate to become pregnant without going through any additional treatments or IVF. We know our fertility journey is unique and not typical, but we hope others find strength to continue pushing forward and never give up. We would highly recommend Dr. Nguyen and the Shady Grove Fertility team to anyone who is seeking fertility assistance.”
“Dr. Nguyen is an amazing doctor and I would recommend her to anyone. She is extremely knowledgeable and helped us through the beginning of our journey becoming first-time parents. When we found out we were pregnant, she was genuinely so excited for us. If we decide on a second child, I will be going back to her care, for sure. The process was very scary for us as we were never through it before, but she answered all of our questions thoroughly and with care and concern!”
“Dr. Nguyen is an incredible mix of knowledge and genuine care for her patients. We asked a TON of questions and she was right there throughout the beginning of our journey to guide us and offer us the best knowledge and care that we could ever ask for at such a scary and unfamiliar time. I would recommend her wholeheartedly and I will definitely be returning if we try for baby #2 in the future!”
“Dr. Nguyen is extremely professional and she answered all of our questions thoroughly. She showed genuine concern throughout our journey and I would recommend her to anyone seeking fertility treatment/information.”
“My husband and I were very satisfied with the level of care that Shady Grove and Dr. Nguyen provided us. Dr. Nguyen and the staff were very pleasant and thorough in explaining everything to us and worked hard to help us have another baby. We are now the proud parents of our 5th child and we couldn’t be happier! Thank you for all that you have done and continue to do!”
“Dr. Nguyen is THE BEST. She is engaged and truly cares about your journey. She was so kind and patient with me- and trust me, I test that with millions and millions of questions! I highly recommend her to any and everyone seeking infertility treatment.”
“Dr. Kara Nguyen is amazing! My wife and I had an traumatic experience with a different office. We were understandingly anxious, but Dr. Nguyen explained each procedure thoroughly, answered our questions and most importantly, is very kind and skilled clinically. The clinical experience she has was evident because we needed to repeat several tests, which went smoothly under her care. These same tests were traumatic in another practice. I would definitely recommend her.”
