Q & A

Q: Why did you become a doctor/reproductive endocrinologist?

Being a doctor allows me to take on different roles, all of which are challenging. Science was always fascinating to me and medicine is a very gratifying application of it. There are so many ways to make a difference and help improve a person's quality of life. As a doctor who specializes in helping patients build their families, it is a privilege to help them achieve their goals for health and ultimately fulfill their identities as parents.

Q: Who inspires you?

I have a son and twin girls who inspire me every day to be a better person for them and for myself. They remind me every day of what is important and to take time to really be present in the moment. They make sure there is plenty of laughter in my life!

Q: What's on your bucket list?

My family loves to travel and giving back is very important. My husband grew up overseas and I have worked in Africa, South America and Asia on several projects. We both would love to return to the countries in which we grew up.

Q: What are your hobbies?

I love to watch movies, learn salsa dancing, and practice power yoga. I like learning new languages and trying new foods. I also have dabbled in sailing but don't trust me to tie a proper knot!

Q: What about you would surprise most people?

I was planning to be a gynecologic oncologist because I loved the surgery but late in my application process a very close mentor told me to withdraw my application because my skill set was a better match as a fertility specialist. I have been thanking him ever since! I love what I do and couldn't imagine doing anything else.

Q: What about SGF makes you the most proud?

"My husband and I had given up hope on completing our family. We had previously visited another reproductive specialist in the area and had a horrible experience. We were exhausted from trying, we were heartbroken year after year. My husband and I agreed this would be our final stop. We saw Dr. Nguyen and she looked through our history with a fine tooth comb, adjusted a few things, and then we got pregnant - and here's the miracle - WE STAYED PREGNANT. Graduating to our regular OB was bittersweet. I was so grateful for the first trimester with Dr. Nguyen and her staff - they reassured us and stood by us the entire time. I feel so grateful to have been with them for the majority of our first trimester. They made our dreams come true."

"Dr. Nguyen is extremely knowledgeable in infertility. She is very patient in answering questions and explaining the process. I had an excellent experience with Dr. Nguyen, who also helped us become pregnant with our first child. It was hard to leave her practice as we "graduated" to seeing an OB/GYN for the remainder of my pregnancy because she honestly made us feel like family. I was recommended to her by a friend and would recommend her to anyone else seeking infertility help."

"I am 38 years old and have had trouble conceiving for almost two years. I had gone to a couple of fertility doctors who just told me there was nothing wrong with me and that they couldn't do anything to help me get pregnant. Then I met, Dr. Nguyen and her staff. They were the kindest people I have ever met in the medical field. Not only did they make me feel at ease but they also treated me with respect and did everything to help me get pregnant. I believe that it was Dr. Nguyen and her staff that help make my dreams come true!!!"

"I was under the care of Dr. Kara Nguyen during our journey through IVF. I had concerns about IVF initially as it related to my religious views. Dr. Nguyen was extremely compassionate and understanding. She worked on a tailored plan specifically for me and my spouse that honored our religious views and put us at ease. From our first consultation to our last visit (once I was 9 weeks pregnant!!), Dr. Nguyen was so supportive, helpful, and kind... Dr. Nguyen also has a wonderful staff who were so patient in walking us through the entire process and were always available to take our questions and phone calls. They made our experience truly wonderful and we're so thankful to them all!"
