Q & A
Q: Why did you become a doctor/reproductive endocrinologist?
A: While in medical school, I considered careers in ob-gyn, internal medicine, and pediatrics. I thrive on intellectual stimulation, like working with women and gynecology, and love babies and children. Reproductive endocrinology and infertility incorporates aspects of all these fields and is emotionally rewarding. Observing the tremendous joy that successful fertility treatment offers to patients inspired me as a third-year medical student to pursue this field.
Q: What are your hobbies?
A: My hobbies include traveling, gardening, exploring new cultures and cuisines, Zumba, and spending time with friends and family
Q: What is something about you that would surprise most people?
A: Some of my childhood claims to fame include being a finalist in the New York City spelling bee, skipping the eighth grade, being Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, and being on the front cover of the New York Daily News for having the best schoolyard garden.
Q: What about SGF makes you the most proud?
A: I am proud to be in a practice that offers scientific excellence yet at the same time is interested in addressing not just the medical, but the financial and emotional needs of a patient.
Q: What’s on your bucket list?
A: I would love to travel the world! I also have a soft spot for the needy, especially orphans and the elderly, and would love to help improve their lives through adoption and eldercare reform
Q: What is your approach to helping patients who are struggling?
A: I thrive on my personal interactions with my patients. When they are struggling emotionally, I try to be their realistic cheerleader, trying to motivate and encourage them so that they can move forward with the fertility journey and achieve a successful pregnancy outcome.
Q: How would you describe your personality?
A: I would describe myself as a kind, warm, caring person. I am very analytical, thoughtful and balanced by nature. I like to smile and make others smile.
I am proud to be in a practice that offers scientific excellence yet at the same time is interested in addressing not just the medical, but the financial and emotional needs of a patient.
“Dr K is a legend in our home – not just because she was the doctor that guided me successfully through IVF but because she had that human connection that 3 prior doctors I met with had lacked. Dr K erased the feeling of being on a conveyor belt. While Dr K also bombarded me with statistics that were not in my favor – and strongly encouraged me to go donor egg to avoid the many risks associated with my age. I was willing to accept the risks Dr K and all the experts before her described – and still spend thousands of dollars knowing I may not become pregnant, and that I was only given a 5% success rate with a 50% chance of miscarriage, and a 1 to 20 ratio for down syndrome. Unlike the other experts Dr K allowed ME to make my choices where 3 prior fertility doctors chose for me. The child Dr K helped me create is now 13 – a tall healthy daughter who plays volleyball and has been an Honor Roll student for the past 3 years! Recently a younger friend asked me where I went for my IVF – and I explained its more about WHO I went to – not where I went. . I lived in VA Beach when Dr K was my doctor – I stayed with friends and hotels during my IVF treatments because Dr K had been referred to me by a different friend who had success with Dr K before me. I highly recommend Dr K!”
“We do not have enough glowing things to say about Dr. Kulshrestha! She walked us through our journey start to finish and was always there to answer questions, calm anxieties and cheer us on. She is very thorough and professional and always took the time to call us during each and every step of the process. We had several failed attempts at one of the other fertility centers, but Dr. Kulshrestha nailed it on the first time for us. So incredibly grateful for her care and attention.”
“Dr. Kulshrestha gave me so much time and attention. I couldn’t have asked for a better doctor. She is very knowledgeable and takes the time to explain each step of the process. Fertility is hard, but Dr. K makes it easier. I would recommend her to anyone. She will change your life.”
“After having a rocky start to our infertility journey, my husband and I were transitioned to Dr. Kulshrestha’s care. I was unsure what to expect based on my experience with my previous doctor but we knew we wanted a baby and would do anything to achieve that goal. Dr. Kulshrestha was absolutely amazing! She was patient and kind and was genuinely passionate about helping us become parents. I never questioned any recommendations she had or changes she made to our protocol because I knew her priority was helping us create our miracle baby. The journey was anything but easy and surely had its fair share of heartbreak, but I maintained the strength to continue moving forward because Dr. Kulshrestha always had a plan ready to be put into action if/when things got off track. I know that if we need SGF again in the future, Dr. Kulshrestha will be ready and willing to support us again.”
“Dr. Kulshrestha and her team were absolutely wonderful. She took the time to explain the processes and options we needed to be successful. The nurses and staff were incredibly helpful and supportive! So thankful to Dr. K and the team for their outstanding kindness and service!”
“Dr. Kulshrestha and the whole staff at Shady Grove Fertility are the most caring and professional medical staff I have ever seen. People come to them at a time when they are very vulnerable, sad, frustrated and I was no exception. They offered me realistic hope, a timeline and lots of options. After any procedures they would call to follow up for the next few days. Dr. Kulshrestha is so sweet and makes you feel special and that your concerns are her concerns. She wants success for you and will do anything for that. I wish she could be my every day doctor.”
“Dr. Kulshrestha was not only a wonderful doctor but also provided a great deal of comfort and understanding in an otherwise very stressful process. I would recommend her to anyone pursuing (or considering pursuing) fertility treatment.”
“Where do I begin? Not only was Dr. Kulshrestha a good doctor, she was so much more than that. She was basically my therapist as well. She provided so much support during such a trying time for my husband and me. She gave us the time we needed and NEVER rushed us out her door. No questions were left unanswered ever and she treated every situation with kindness, respect, empathy, and compassion. I could go on and on. Thank God for SGF. I am now pregnant with my first child thanks to her and all the Shady Grove Fertility staff.”
“After four years of pain and sorrow, meeting Dr. Kulshrestha was an absolute game changer. Her demeanor alone made us feel like we had a new lease on (creating) life. She’s incredible. She truly cares about getting to know her patients, and treated us with the sensitivity, warmth, and knowledge we so desperately needed. I’m six months pregnant with our first son after only one round of IVF. Dr. Kulshrestha. just called to check in the other day, and to remind us that if we ever need anything, she’s only an email away. I’m feeling our little one kick away as I type this and we owe that wonderful gift to Dr. K and the amazing staff at SGF!”
