Your Clinical Assistant (CA)

The Clinical Assistant (sometimes called a clinical administrative assistant [CAA]) at Shady Grove Fertility is an integral member of the patient care team—a team whose mission is to enhance the patient experience and work closely with our physicians throughout various aspects of the diagnostic and treatment process.

What is a Clinical Assistant?

A Clinical Assistant provides support to patients, physicians, and nurses. All CAs have experience in the medical field; many of whom were previously medical assistants or patient service representatives. You can certainly rely on a CA to help you find answers and point you in the right direction. At Shady Grove Fertility, the primary role of a CA is to:

  • Coordinate patient care by scheduling follow-up and monitoring appointments
  • Obtain prescription authorizations
  • Coordinate lab work
  • Help find answers and points patients in the right direction

The CAs in some of our offices will also assist during morning monitoring by performing blood draws, preparing exam rooms, and assisting with other procedures throughout the day.

Your Medical Assistant (MA)

A medical assistant plays an integral role during office monitoring appointments, where patients receive ultrasounds and bloodwork to evaluate response to treatment. It is the responsibility of the medical assistant to help ensure patients have a safe, efficient, and thorough appointment.

What is a Medical Assistant?

At Shady Grove Fertility, the primary role of the MA is to:

  • Draw blood for evaluation
  • Process lab specimens and send them to the correct lab
  • Assist physicians and ultrasound technicians with various procedures
  • Document patient care services utilizing daily logs and patient records
  • Enter labs and print labels to ensure the necessary chain-of-custody for each specimen (typically blood)
  • Perform semen washes and set up for intrauterine inseminations (IUIs)
  • Take vital signs and provide general clinical assistance
  • Maintain supplies for the blood drawing stations

What role does the Clinical Support staff play on the health care team?

Our caring and compassionate clinical and medical assistants work closely with the physicians and fertility nurses to care for each patient. Together, this team works alongside our patients from the initial consultation all the way through graduation. Many SGF team members throughout the practice have been in your shoes, so we are uniquely aware of the highs and lows that often accompany this journey to parenthood. Our clinical support staff gets involved in your story, hurt when you hurt, and rejoice in your good news. They are there for you to lend you a smile, a listening ear, or some helpful information to make each appointment as easy and efficient as possible.
