Does national data support the perception that infertility treatments have increased year over year? No, however according to Kurt Barnhart, president of the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, infertility services are underutilized.

On Wednesday, January 22nd 2014, the National Center for Health Statistics found that increased awareness about the number of fertility treatment options has not increase the actual use of fertility services. Instead, the national numbers show declines for those seeking medical help to get pregnant or to prevent miscarriage. The study was conducted from 2006-2010 and findings are based on a survey of 22,682 men and women between the ages of 15-44, however the data is focused on women in the 25-44 age group. In the 25-44 age group of women, the National Center for Health Statistics found that 17 percent of women had ever used any form of infertility service, which is a decrease of 3 percent compared to 1995.

This is mostly due to misconceptions about treatment and misconceptions about cost and financial options. Shady Grove Fertility data supports that on average, one in eight couples will need treatment for infertility during their reproductive years.
