Shady Grove Fertility – 2012 IVF Success Rates

How do you define success when it comes to fertility treatment? Is it a positive pregnancy test or taking home a baby? The answer can vary from practice to practice, making IVF success rates complicated and difficult to translate.

As we introduce our 2012 IVF success rates including Frozen Embryo Transfers (FET), here is an infographic to understand your chances of growing your family with Shady Grove Fertility.

Common IVF Success Rate Questions

1. When reviewing IVF stats, how is success determined? Pregnancy or Live Birth?

Shady Grove Fertility determines success the same as you – taking home a baby. A pregnancy represents any positive pregnancy test confirmed with an ultrasound, even if those pregnancies were miscarried or ectopic. It is important to look at the ongoing or live birth rate.

2. What are my chances of having a baby if I start a cycle?

Patients should look at Live Births per Cycle, which may vary by age. While live birth rates slowly decline as the patient’s age increases, a patient’s chance of success cumulatively increases with each treatment cycle attempted.

3. What is the rate of Twins and Triplets?

Multiples pregnancies are higher risk and can result in higher rates of disabilities and other challenges for the child.  As the leaders in the area of reducing high risk multiple pregnancies (twins and triplets) through elective Single Embryo Transfer (eSET), we are especially pleased with the high live birth rate we have achieved. This means that more live births occurred even though fewer embryos were transferred per procedure.

Hello! I’m a 36 year old mother of two…I’ve had tubal ligation done for almost 9 years. Would IVF been a good option for me if I’m considering to have another child.

    Thanks..

Hi Sharell – There are many things to weigh when considering IVF or a tubal reversal. There are many advantages for moving forward with IVF, especially if you are only looking to have one additional child. A consultation with a fertility specialist can help guide your decision and a fertility work-up can provide you with more information regarding future conception. Hi Diana – Tubal reversal is not the same as IVF. Tubal reversal is only done if there was a previous tubal ligation (or “tubes tied”). Often times, for women with a previous tubal ligation, IVF is the most effective treatment procedure. If she opts to have a tubal reversal procedure, there is some percentage that the procedure will not work, and there is no guarantee as to whether she will be able to conceive afterwards. However, if she is still young and wishing to have more than one child, it may be recommended to move forward with tubal reversal.
