Having an HSG at Shady Grove
The Hysterosalpingogram (hystero= uterus. Salpingo = tube Gram = x-ray, or HSG) involves the injection of a dye into the uterus through the cervix under fluoroscopic x-ray control. The dye is delivered though a canula or catheter at the time of a pelvic exam and a dynamic and/or still record of the procedure is made. HSG’s can be performed in hospitals and other free standing centers and can be done by infertility specialists, obstetrician-gynecologists, radiologists, physician assistants and other health care providers. Health care providers performing HSG’s should be trained in performing pelvic exams and be technically proficient with the HSG technique. They should also be able to evaluate its findings and report them comprehensively.
Shady Grove Fertility Center physicians routinely make treatment decisions based on HSG’s done at facilities other than our own. Occasionally, however, the information on the HSG done at an outside facility may be inconclusive or not provide all the information needed for the best medical recommendations for your treatment. Your Shady Grove Fertility physicians may therefore even recommend repeating the HSG to gain the information necessary.
We have the ability to perform HSG’s at Shady Grove Fertility Center in our certified Rockville radiologic facility and encourage you to use this facility and our infertility specialist performing the exam.
